Dr. Ashley Thompson visited Greenville Elementary this morning to speak to Kindergarten - 2nd grade students about the importance of good dental hygiene. He read the book "Llama Llama Loses a Tooth" to each group and encouraged the students to take good care of their teeth.

Members of STAND greeted elementary students across the district yesterday as a way to STAND out and show kindness. They gave out encouraging cards and shared a positive announcement at the start of the school day.

Muhlenberg North Middle hosted a reality store for all 7th graders today. Students were given a low-paying career and a high-paying career to budget their monthly income along with being assigned a number of children. Some were very cautious while others ran out of money quickly.

Counselors and registrars from across the district met together this week to create more efficiencies in our student enrollment and records transfer process. To help visualize the importance of this work, the group engaged in a little competition. They set out a goal of making a 50 foot paper chain within five minutes. They tripled that length with a paper chain of 162 feet! TEAMWORK and AWESOME COMMUNICATION for the win!

In a meeting with new superintendents across the state, Mr. Grant Sharp, Principal at Bremen Elementary, partnered with iReady's associate, Arthur Lawson, to share information on student growth at his school. Muhlenberg County Schools began using the iReady program this year.

5th grade students at Muhlenberg South Elementary participated in a hands-on assignment today on the parts and functions of a heart. Each of them got to see and feel real deer hearts as they measured, labeled and discussed the functions of a heart. Most were fully engaged!

Mr. Sharp has a boys to gentlemen club at Bremen Elementary made up of 4th and 5th grade boys. This morning they learned how to tie a tie. The group created their own “handshake” as a way to greet each other.

The purpose of this award is to recognize quality teaching in the schools across the state of Kentucky and to strengthen the field of education. Greenville Elementary fourth grade students hosted a Natural Hazard Plan Fair in the school gym this morning. Students have been researching natural hazard and developing plans to reduce their impact on humans. Students demonstrated how to be creative problem solvers.
