Muhlenberg County Public Schools

Counselors and registrars from across the district met together this week to create more efficiencies in our student enrollment and records transfer process. To help visualize the importance of this work, the group engaged in a little competition. They set out a goal of making a 50 foot paper chain within five minutes. They tripled that length with a paper chain of 162 feet! TEAMWORK and AWESOME COMMUNICATION for the win!

In a meeting with new superintendents across the state, Mr. Grant Sharp, Principal at Bremen Elementary, partnered with iReady's associate, Arthur Lawson, to share information on student growth at his school. Muhlenberg County Schools began using the iReady program this year.

5th grade students at Muhlenberg South Elementary participated in a hands-on assignment today on the parts and functions of a heart. Each of them got to see and feel real deer hearts as they measured, labeled and discussed the functions of a heart. Most were fully engaged!

Diana Anderson, Director of Pathway of Hope, spoke to STAND students this morning at their monthly meeting about self love. STAND members have been focusing this school year on a variety of topics centered around the theme Brand New Me.

Mr. Sharp has a boys to gentlemen club at Bremen Elementary made up of 4th and 5th grade boys. This morning they learned how to tie a tie. The group created their own “handshake” as a way to greet each other.

Muhlenberg County Schools is participating in the 2023 Excellence in Teaching Award Program. The purpose of this award is to recognize quality teaching in the schools across the state of Kentucky and to strengthen the field of education. It provides statewide recognition to three outstanding individuals from our district for their leadership and dedication to the teaching profession. Employees across the district voted and the recipients are... Mrs. Sarah Brothers representing the elementary school level, Mrs. Becky Coombs representing the middle school level, and Mr. David Everly representing the high school level. These teachers will be invited to Campbellsville University in May to be recognized with fellow award winners across the state. Congratulations to Mrs. Brothers, Mrs. Coombs, and Mr. Everly!

Greenville Elementary fourth grade students hosted a Natural Hazard Plan Fair in the school gym this morning. Students have been researching natural hazard and developing plans to reduce their impact on humans. Students demonstrated how to be creative problem solvers.

All Muhlenberg County Schools will be closed tomorrow, February 17, and Monday, February 20, as indicated on the school calendar. Enjoy a long weekend!

The Muhlenberg South Middle School Academic Team, coaches, principals and parents met today for the live draw for State Quick Recall Tournament at Louisville this weekend.  We are so proud of this group of outstanding academic competitors!

Principal Ken Carver spoke at the February Greater Muhlenberg Chamber meeting today about changes taking place at our high school. Senior Macy Cotton shared about the changes from a student's perspective and Mr. Quinton Owens shared from a teacher's perspective. From culture to logos, great things are happening.

Bremen's first Celebration of Learning took place Tuesday evening. Students practiced their effective communication skills by sharing their various learning projects with families. They also showed they are empowered learners by sharing learning goals and assessment data.

Kentucky Shakespeare visited Central City Elementary this morning and presented to 4th and 5th grade students. Students traveled throughout the history of Kentucky.
