Congratulations to Jonathan Mayes and Brody Sheriff, both sophomores at Muhlenberg County High School, for being selected from Muhlenberg County for the Gatton Academy!
The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky at Western Kentucky University selected 97 sophomores from across the state for its Class of 2028, representing 36 counties and a highly competitive admissions process. The program immerses students in advanced STEM coursework, research, and residential college experiences while they complete high school. For educators, it highlights both the demand for accelerated pathways and the pipeline of future STEM talent across Kentucky.
Our 5th graders are touring Muhlenberg County Middle School today and tomorrow. Students are led by middle school students throughout the building to give 5th graders the opportunity to see what school life looks like as a middle schooler.

Wilson also discussed the education and credentials many careers require and shared information about ways to pay for higher education, including scholarships and Kentucky’s KEES (Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship) program. The visit helped students begin thinking about their goals and the steps they can take to reach them.
